SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFE GUARD

 The Town of Riverview Parks & Recreation Department is accepting applications for a Swim Instructor / Life Guard for the period of September 2008 to June 2009.  The ideal candidate would have their Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification and Red Cross Guard or National Lifeguard Service Award ~ (Training available). 

Duties would include Swim Instruction to District 2 School Swim Program and Guard at Recreational Swims.

RIVERVIEW AQUATIC CENTRE
DAYTIME SCHOOL PROGRAM CASUAL

This position is with the Town of Riverview Parks and Recreation Department and the individual will report to the Aquatic Supervisor.  The term of the annual position is from the third week of September to the end of the following June.  The individual will be employed as a swim instructor, lifeguard and provide assistance to the Supervisor in the daily operation of the Centre.  The qualifications and duties are outlined below.

·    Individual must hold the following certifications:  Red Cross Water Safety    · Instructor, Bronze Cross (Red Cross Guard or National Lifeguard Service ·    Award preferred), Standard First Aid, Level C CPR and must maintain ·    ·    current status of each award.  Training is available.

·    Provide instruction and evaluation of swimmers participating in the School ·    District 2 Swim Program.

·    Provide supervision during recreational and fitness activities.

·    Prevent injuries and provide First Aid in any emergency that may arise in ·    · an aquatic setting.

·    Development and updating of the school swim schedule and contacting of ·    schools prior to start dates.

·    Development of and participation in the Special Needs Teacher’s ·    ·    ·    · Assistants Workshops.

·    Possess a complete understanding of the Red Cross, Lifesaving and ·    ·    · facility programs in order to answer phone and walk in inquiries.

·    Maintenance of daily log of information needed by evening and weekend ·    staff.

·    Ability to work in Microsoft Word and Excel would be an asset.

·    Preparation of registration materials and handling of program ·    ·    ·    ·    ·    registrations.

·    Accurate record keeping of daily statistics for patron attendance, ·    ·    ·    ·    instructing and guarding hours.

·    Daily maintenance duties and minor equipment repairs as needed.

·    Maintain accurate inventory of Red Cross lesson, Lifesaving lesson and ·    facility materials.

Hours will be 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday to Friday during the school year, however hours may fluctuate due to storm days or school holidays.
